Dual occupancy result

Over the past several years, we have been raising with the Government our concerns about redevelopment of blocks that contain a single house-sized building comprising a two-bedroom flat and a one-bedroom flat.  These are designed so that they look like a single residence and can easily be turned into a single residence.  Under current provisions, however, they are treated under the Multi-Unit Housing Development Code because they do not fit the definition of a single dwelling block.  The Government has just released a Draft Variation to the Territory Plan which addresses our concerns.  The development that gave rise to the above concern, on the corner of Petterd Street and Belconnen Way, Page, is now for sale – “the best townhouses that have ever been executed in this central location”.
